Adult Education/Noncredit
Noncredit instruction includes various tuition-free courses that help students reach their personal, academic and professional goals. Noncredit courses are zero units and non-degree applicable, however, students can earn Certificates of Completion or Competency. Students do not pay enrollment or other fees for noncredit courses, but are responsible for textbooks and class material fees, if any are required for the class. Noncredit courses can be repeated and do not count towards financial aid.
About the Adult Education Program
The Adult Education Program provides instructional programs and student support services to individuals who are interested in improving their basic English and math skills, improving their English language skills for non-native speakers, becoming a U.S. citizen, helping their children in school, and increasing employability by learning new skills and/or trades.
The Adult Education Office provides wrap-around student support services that include enrollment and registration support, student orientation, academic counseling, course level placement tools, resources to navigate the higher education system, student testing services, referrals to on- and off-campus resources, and other personalized supports to ensure student success and retention.

Within the allied health professions there are a multitude of formulas that need to be solved; for example, in respiratory care, the alveolar gas equation; medical assisting requires students to be able to calculate drips per minute based on solution strength. Scientific notation is a method of recording extremely large and small values. As such, the allied health professional will need to be able to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of values using scientific notation. This noncredit course covers ratios and proportions required for dosage calculations, dimensional analysis, and other job-specific applications related to the allied health professions. Allied health professionals need to be able to use, like proportions, to solve problems in a variety of allied health applications. Dental Assisting and Radiologic Technology use, like proportions, to adjust exposure factors for changes in distance. Drug dosage calculations typically use ratios and proportions to solve for differences in concentrations and weight. This noncredit course provides an overview of Alzheimer's and dementia including signs, symptoms, brain pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment, and strategies for successful caregiving skills. It will teach students about the physical, emotional, cognitive and behavioral changes that may occur with the progression of the disease. The class will focus on important health and safety considerations for the clients as well as for the Personal Care Aide when working with someone with Alzheimer's and other types of dementia.
