This program is designed to help English Language Learners become engaged participants in U.S. society, including those working towards obtaining U.S. citizenship through naturalization. The courses focus on developing students' language skills and understanding of American history, laws, government, and civic expectations.
Program Outcomes
- Students will demonstrate basic reading and writing ability demonstrating a basic understanding of U.S. government and history or healthcare system.
- Students will show increased ability to apply English pronunciation rules, active listening techniques and knowledge of non-verbal cues in one-one-one conversations.
- Students will demonstrate basic understanding of U.S. history, government, and geography.
- Students will be able to explain and apply the rights and responsibilities of U.S. citizens to real-life situations.
Certificate of Competency
A certificate in a recognized career field articulated with degree-applicable coursework, completion of an associate degree, or transfer to a baccalaureate institution.
