This course is designed for first semester level of heritage speakers or for students who are linguistically equivalent to a heritage speaker of Spanish. Students will further develop their existing Spanish language skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking through the study of academic Spanish vocabulary and grammar. Students will analyze historical and current events, art, culture, and literary works of Chicanx, Latinx American, and Spanish writers to enrich the knowledge of the Spanish-speaking world and develop an appreciation for Hispanic cultures of all Spanish-speaking countries and in the United States. This course is conducted entirely in Spanish. This course corresponds to two years of high school study in Spanish. Students who have taken two years of High School Spanish are eligible for SPAN G165 or SPAN G185. Graded or Pass/No Pass option. C-ID: SPAN 220.

This course is a continuation of SPAN G160 and is designed for second semester level for heritage speakers or for students who are linguistically equivalent to a heritage speaker of Spanish. Students will further develop their existing Spanish language skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking through the continued study of academic Spanish vocabulary and grammar. Students will analyze historical and current events, art, culture, and literary works of Chicanx, Latinx American, and Spanish writers to enrich the knowledge of the Spanish-speaking world and develop an appreciation for Hispanic cultures of all Spanish-speaking countries and in the United States.
