The Associate of Arts for Transfer in Global Studies program aims to empower students to make meaningful contributions and provide leadership in our complex world. This multidisciplinary program draws on various theories and perspectives to provide students with a comprehensive study of the process and fundamental dynamics of globalization. This program introduces students to various issues, such as climate change, human rights and inequality, ethnic conflicts, immigration, global health and pandemics. Students will engage in experiential learning, develop analytical skills, and assess protentional solutions to the 21st century's most pressing issues.

Program Level Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Examine the continual evolution of globalization and its consequences.
  2. Compare distinctive forms of political, social, and economic organizations within the context of the historical evolution of globalization.
  3. Explain the interconnectedness of the economic, political, environmental, and sociocultural forces of globalization.
  4. Utilize a multi-cultural perspective with which to analyze the complexities of global issues.
  5. Implement potential solutions to issues that will affect global change.

Associate Degree for Transfer Graduation Requirements

Associate Degrees for Transfer require students to meet the following requirements:

  • Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units of degree-applicable courses,
  • Minimum overall grade point average of 2.0,
  • Minimum grade of “C” (or “P”) for each course in the major, and
  • Completion of IGETC and/or CSU GE-Breadth.

Students should consult a GWC counselor in order to select the best pathway to meet their educational goals. For students who intend to transfer, the choice of general education will be specific to both their major and transfer institution.

Recommended Program Sequence

These sequences are general course maps for students to finish all major and general education requirements for two-year completion of degrees, completion of short-term certificates, and/or fulfillment of transfer requirements. However, this may not be an appropriate path for all students.  The two-year sequence is based on English and Math placement and meeting other course prerequisites. Students are advised to meet with a GWC Counselor to review course selections and sequences to ensure that completion of this program will meet a student's transfer and career goals.

In order to complete the Major requirements for the AAT in Global Studies, studies must select 5 courses from at least 4 of the following areas: Culture and Society, Geography, Economics, Politics, Humanities.
