Formerly: Elementary Vietnamese. This course is designed to introduce students to the fundamental skills of spoken and written Vietnamese. Students will learn correct pronunciation, basic structural patterns, and necessary vocabulary in order to write and understand basic sentences and carry on simple conversations. This course is equivalent to two years of high school Vietnamese. Graded or Pass/No Pass option.

Formerly: Elementary Vietnamese. This course is a continuation of VIET G180. The VIET G185 course is designed to further develop the fundamental skills of spoken and written Vietnamese. Students will learn correct pronunciation, basic structural patterns, and necessary vocabulary in order to write and understand basic sentences and carry on simple conversations and paragraphs. Fundamental aspects of Vietnamese culture will be addressed. Graded or Pass/No Pass option.

Formerly: Intermediate Vietnamese. This course is designed for students to practice essential skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The course will provide students with further development of vocabulary, introduce idiomatic expressions and practice writing paragraphs in standard Vietnamese. Cultural reading will include Vietnamese history, literature and current affairs. Graded or Pass/No Pass option.

Formerly: Intermediate Vietnamese. This course is a continuation of Vietnamese G280. The course is designed for students to practice advanced-intermediate skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. It will provide students with further advanced-intermediate development of vocabulary, introduce idiomatic expressions and practice writing paragraphs in standard Vietnamese. Cultural reading of advanced-intermediate level will include Vietnamese history, literature, and current affairs. Graded or Pass/No Pass option.
