Dance

The OCC Dance Department provides a foundation in the theory, technique, and aesthetics of the art of dance. Faculty guide those seeking to become professional, and recreational dancers, to master strength, flexibility, and musicality within a particular dance form while also developing insight, perception, understanding, and evaluative skills. Students explore their own creative potential and have ample opportunities to perform in the Robert B. Moore Theatre.

Movement courses are available in Modern Dance, Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Tap, Hip Hop, Pilates Mat and Apparatus, Conditioning, Yoga, and World Dance forms (African, Flamenco, Latin, Middle Eastern and Polynesian). We also offer Choreography and Dance Improvisation courses. Our lecture courses cover Music, Methodology,  Dance or Pilates as a Profession, World Dance Traditions, and Appreciation of Dance. Dance Repertoire and Performing Dance Ensemble courses culminate in bi-annual concerts. Transfer arrangements have been articulated with CSULB, UCI, UCLA, CSUF, and Cornish School of the Arts. 
 
We offer an Associate in Arts Degree in Dance and five Certificates of Achievement: Dance Instructor, World Dance Instructor, Pilates Mat Instructor, Comprehensive Pilates Instructor, and Commercial Dance. These unique vocational programs prepare students for a variety of job opportunities.

Using traditional yoga postures and breathing techniques, this course is designed for the needs of the training dancer. Yoga postures to increase strength and flexibility, as well as restorative postures will be taught in order to bring about improvement in the execution of dance movements.
