Independent Colleges and Universities Admission Requirements

In addition to state-supported colleges and universities in California, there are many independent/private institutions. Each of these institutions has its own unique requirements for admission.  AICCU institutions are not part of a system, and each campus has its own admission and graduation requirements. Students can visit the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities website (www.aiccu.edu) for a full listing of institutions. Participating AICCU campuses will provide a community college student graduating with an Associate Degree for Transfer guaranteed admission at junior standing to the institution. Other independent institutions will have specific transfer pathways and articulation agreements for their majors.

While many independent colleges and universities accept either CSUGE or IGETC in lieu of their own general education requirements, others have their own unique general education requirements. Each institution will set its own requirements for admission and degree requirements. In order to determine eligibility for transfer admission, students should work with the Transfer Center, check the independent university catalog, and consult with a GWC transfer counselor.
