This is a noncredit certificate program in English as a Second Language designed to prepare beginning-level students for entry-level employment, career training courses, and further academic study. The certificate program includes courses that focus on speaking and listening skills; grammar, reading and writing skills; pronunciation skills; and digital literacy skills.

Program Level Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this program students will be able to:

  1. Communicate basic personal information in spoken English following conventions of grammar and pronunciation.
  2. Ask basic questions in English following conventions of pronunciation and grammar.
  3. Complete a basic paper and pencil or online application form in English following conventions of spelling, grammar, and mechanics.

This award confirms that a student has completed a noncredit program that prepares students to progress in a career path or to take degree-applicable courses.
