The Professional Advancement - Speech-Language Pathology Assistant Certificate of Achievement is ideal for students pursuing a career as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA). Students who have completed coursework required by the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board will have the opportunity to obtain essential training and clinical fieldwork experience for SLPA licensure through this program. Upon completion, students will be eligible to apply for licensure as a SLPA under the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board to practice under supervision of a fully licensed Speech Language Pathologist (SLP). A SLPA collaborates with the SLP to provide screening procedures and administer direct treatment for individuals with speech and language disorders.
Program Outcomes:
- Recipients of the Professional Advancement Certificate in Speech-Language Pathology Assistant will demonstrate correct use of screening and treatment procedures for speech-language disorders.
- Recipients of the Professional Advancement Certificate in Speech-Language Pathology Assistant will determine appropriate materials to be used in therapy for objectives targeted using appropriate stimuli, cues, prompts, and task-modification behaviors associated with the objectives.
- Recipients of the Professional Advancement Certificate in Speech-Language Pathology Assistant will be able to implement techniques for reinforcement.
- Recipients of the Professional Advancement Certificate in Speech-Language Pathology Assistant will demonstrate ability to carry out Speech-Language Pathologist directed plans per individual client needs in both 1-on-1 or group settings and document client progress.
