The Interior Design Program at Orange Coast College is dedicated to helping students develop their fullest potential in academic, professional and personal skills, preparing them for a rewarding career in design. This exceptional, multi-level program, developed by educators and industry professionals, promotes an interdisciplinary, equal opportunity education committed to building confident, responsible and socially aware individuals who will contribute to quality of life through interior design.The OCC Interior Design Program Mission is achieved through the following sequential tri-level curriculum. Level 1 – Interior Design Foundation offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the requisite skills for successful entry into the retail furnishings and merchandising sectors, while also laying a solid groundwork for pursuing further academic or professional pathways. Through our program, students gain practical proficiency in various aspects of the design process, including understanding fundamental principles and elements of design, familiarity with diverse materials and products, proficiency in both manual and computer-aided drafting techniques, and application of color theories. This multifaceted approach ensures that graduates possess a well-rounded skill set essential for the field of interior design and related industries.
Program Outcomes
- Students will demonstrate a working knowledge of the fundamentals and history of interior design.
- Students will be able to analyze interior design concepts relevant to end user needs and develop and execute basic design solutions
- Students will develop skills for freehand drawing and basic CAD drafting to communicate design concepts
