Computer Science, Associate in Science Degree for Transfer (AS-T)
The Associate in Science for Transfer (AS-T) degree in Computer Science prepares students to enter a similar baccalaureate program in the California State University system with 60 units of upper-division coursework. Completion of the AS-T guarantees admission to the CSU system—though not to a specific campus or major—provided students maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA in all CSU-transferable coursework. Because some majors may require a higher GPA and not all four-year institutions accept the Computer Science AS-T, students are advised to consult with a counselor when planning their transfer. By successfully completing the courses for the AS-T in Computer Science, students will gain a practical and theoretical understanding for future studies in Computer Science, and be prepared for a baccalaureate degree in Computer Science or similar major.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Design, implement, test, and debug small-scale programs that use fundamental programming constructs and object-oriented programming concepts.
- Develop and apply data structures and algorithms with software engineering practices to create efficient, well-structured programs.
- Write and analyze assembly/machine-level programs to demonstrate understanding of computer organization, data representation, and the translation of high-level code.
- Apply discrete mathematics and logic (sets, relations, functions, counting, graphs, trees, probability) to analyze computing problems and reason about algorithms.
Associate Degree for Transfer Requirements
The following is required for all AA-T or AS-T degrees:
- Minimum of 60 CSU-transferable semester units.
- Minimum GPA of at least 2.0 in all CSU transferable coursework. While a minimum of 2.0 is required for admission, some majors require a higher GPA. Consult with a counselor for more information.
- Completion of a minimum of 18-semester units in the major as detailed in the Degree and Certificate section of this catalog. All courses in the major must be completed with a grade of C (or “P”) or better.
- Certified completion of the Cal-GETC/Breadth.
- A minimum of 12 units in residence within the Coast Colleges (Orange Coast College, Golden West College and/or Coastline College).
