The Security Guard Certificate of Completion is a one week, 40 hour training program that provides students with the skills and knowledge to become a private security guard. This certificate prepares students to take the Bureau of Security and Investigation Services (BSIS) exam and earn a guard card. Attainment of a guard card will require a background check and separate fees paid to the State of California.
These courses satisfy the following Bureau of Security and Investigative Service (BSIS) training requirements:
- The power to arrest training must be completed prior to the issuance of a Security Guard Registration (BPC Sections 7583.6 and 7583.8).
- Thirty-two (32) hours of training in security officer skills must be completed within the first six (6) months of registration.

- Compare the roles of security guards and sworn law enforcement.
- Evaluate criminal and civil liability issues surrounding use of force.
- Create a plan to handle confrontation.
- Perform guard safety tactics.
