English and Math Course Placement
English and Math Placement
English and math assessment tests are no longer required at Coastline College.
State law AB 705 has provided students the opportunity to enroll directly into college level math and English. Placement testing has been eliminated, and placement is now based primarily on high school grades. Students who have been out of high school for more than 10 years, studied outside of the U.S., or fall into other circumstances where high school grades do not apply may complete a guided self-placement. Please contact the Counseling Center at (714) 241-6162 for assistance with guided self-placement.
English as a Second Language (ESL) Placement
Since the standard English test may not accurately measure non-native English speakers’ reading, writing, and speaking skills, the College recommends that non-native English speakers contact the ESL office at (714) 431-3601. The ESL office will help students determine what ESL placement works best for them.
Exam Proctoring
Students in need of exam proctoring can contact the Garden Grove Campus offices and arrange a time to take exams for their courses with the permission of their instructor. Call (714) 241-6209 to arrange proctored exam times.
