Course Description
This course is an introduction to costuming for the theater, television, and film. Content to include costume history, aesthetics, criticism, and how religious, political and economic conditions affect the design of theatrical costumes. Topics include fabrics, accessories, sewing, costume construction, wardrobe observations, color coordination and theory, script analysis, and basic drawing. Students will participate in the design and construction of costumes for Golden West College productions and will work on production wardrobe crews. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC. C-ID: THTR 174. Course Objectives
- 1. Create costumes for theater, television, or film productions from script to performance.
- 2. Employ elements of costume history, and design aesthetics as applicable to create costumes for theater, television, or film productions.
- 3. Apply elements of color theory, color mixing, and the visual effects of primary, secondary, and tertiary color to create costumes for theater, television, or film productions.
- 4. Provide critical, cultural, and dramatic context using subject-specific terms and vocabulary to identify and describe costumes, accessories, and the creations of designers from different historical periods including present day.

Drama/theater Arts: Masters degree or Master of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance OR bachelors degree or Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama/theater/performance AND masters degree in comparative literature, English, communication studies, speech, literature, or humanities OR the equivalent. Masters degree required.
