Course Description
This noncredit course provides practical participation in the performance and technical theater aspects of live theatrical productions presented to the community. Genres will include classical and contemporary plays and musicals presented at Golden West College. Performers will learn acting, dance, solo and choral singing, and audition techniques. Technical theater students will develop technical proficiency in theater production, stage management and production coordination. Performers and technicians will be selected through the audition/interview process. Open Entry/Open Exit. NOT DEGREE APPLICABLE. Not Transferable.

- Complete an acting assignment or a technical theater crew assignment in a live theatrical production at Golden West College.
- Develop acting, singing, and movement skills through character development and scene interpretation.
- Use script interpretation and analysis to connect with fellow actors on stage and effectively communicate with an audience.
Course Objectives
- 1. Develop the technical and artistic skills to produce and perform in a theater production.
- 2. Apply techniques to collaborate effectively with a production team, understanding the different roles and responsibilities involved.
- 3. Describe the various historical and cultural styles and genres of theater production and performance.
- 4. Create a cohesive and successful production with directors, fellow actors, and production staff by active listening, giving, and receiving feedback, and resolving conflicts to ensure a smooth and productive production process.

Eligible Disciplines
Drama/theater Arts: Masters degree or Master of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance OR bachelors degree or Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama/theater/performance AND masters degree in comparative literature, English, communication studies, speech, literature, or humanities OR the equivalent. Masters degree required.
