Course Description

Formerly: SPED C300, C056. Students with learning challenges will be introduced to practical study skills and the benefits of using smart devices and apps at school, home, and work to help build independence and success. NOT DEGREE APPLICABLE. Not Transferable.

Course Level Student Learning Outcome(s)

1. List at least three ways a smart device and applications (apps) can be used as cognitive tools for school success.
2. Identify how smart device apps can be used to help with school-related and everyday life challenges.
3. Evaluate at least three apps and demonstrate how they can address personal cognitive needs.

Instructional Techniques

Instructional techniques include: live demos of apps slide presentations small group problem-solving exercises interactive discussions

Reading Assignments

Students will be asked to read and take notes on online articles using the note-taking apps discussed in class. Students will be asked to integrate study strategies discussed in class to coursework in other classes, if applicable and/or real-life scenarios.

Writing Assignments

Students will be asked to use apps discussed in class to take and condense lecture notes. Students will be asked to evaluate apps discussed in class and used in their daily life.

Out-of-class Assignments

Students will be asked to use apps outside of the class and to provide work samples.

Demonstration of Critical Thinking

Critical thinking will be demonstrated through written assignments and classroom presentations.

Required Writing, Problem Solving, Skills Demonstration

Students will be given scenarios of problems that might occur when using apps and asked to problem solve and resolve the issues Students will be asked to demonstrate skills related to the apps presented and present how they can be used at school, home, and work
