Course Description

Designed for students with intellectual disabilities in acquiring skills to participate in individual and/or small to large choral singing utilizing unison, two- and/or three-part music, as well as emphasizing voice production, tone, dictation, breath control, and posture. Noncredit. NOT DEGREE APPLICABLE. Not Transferable.

  1. Sing as an individual or as a member of a group, utilizing good tone, diction, posture, breath control and vocal rhythmic patterns.

Course Objectives

  • 1. The student will be able to demonstrate ability to imitate simple vocal rhythmic patterns and tones.
  • 2. The student will be able to demonstrate ability to sing simple solos.
  • 3. The student will be able to demonstrate ability to sing simple single line melodies with peers.
  • 4. The student will be able to demonstrate ability to sing simple rounds.
  • 5. The student will be able to demonstrate ability to sing two-part cannons.
  • 6. The student will be able to demonstrate ability to sing three-part cannons.
  • 7. The student will be able to demonstrate ability to sing with ensemble using some type of visual musical notation.
  • 8. The student will be able to demonstrate ability to visually follow conducting techniques.
  • 9. The student will be able to demonstrate ability to use vocal music as a leisure time activity.
  • 10. The student will be able to demonstrate ability to use vocal music as a creative means of expression.
  • 11. The student will be able to demonstrate the ability to exhibit good listener behaviors at community musical events.
