Course Description

Introduction to instrumental music for students with intellectual disabilities. Course concentrates on the utilization of a variety of melodic and percussive instruments, with an emphasis on using improvisation techniques to facilitate individual development. Noncredit. NOT DEGREE APPLICABLE. Not Transferable.

  1. Play one or more designated musical instruments while demonstrating knowledge of fast and slow tempos and high and low tones.

Course Objectives

  • 1. Choose an instrument to play.
  • 2. Identify musical instruments.
  • 3. Identify musical sounds.
  • 4. Comply with a request to stop playing music.
  • 5. Distinguish between fast and slow tempos.
  • 6. Distinguish between high and low tones.
  • 7. Play a variety of simple musical instruments.
  • 8. Use music as a technique for participation in a leisure-time activity.
  • 9. Play duets with peers.
  • 10. Improvise a simple melodic tune.
