Course Description
A beginning class that covers the basic techniques of acting through the use of improvisational exercises and short in-class performance pieces. Topics include body language, staging directions, active listening, creative collaboration, and vocal essentials. Noncredit. NOT DEGREE APPLICABLE. Not Transferable.

Course Objectives
- 1. Recognize the parts of the theater in order to identify stage directions stage directions.
- 2. Demonstrate the use of the elements of voice, including volume and pacing.
- 3. Demonstrate appropriate teamwork and collaboration skills.
- 4. Apply active listening skills during drama games and scenes.
- 5. Design a short, in class, performance piece.

Out-of-class Assignments
Students will see play or musical outside of class and be prepared to share a brief critique on it.
Demonstration of Critical Thinking
Direct observation of the application of critical thinking practices (e.g. analyze, discriminate, seek information/help, reason, etc.) given real scenarios related to acting.
Required Writing, Problem Solving, Skills Demonstration
Students will perform a short scene or monologue.
