Course Description

This noncredit course introduces students to provide care for the elderly population. Emphasis will be placed on the roles of elderly caregivers, ethical principles and laws, elderly abuse including the Vulnerable Adult Act, therapeutic communication techniques, and promotion of optimal nutrition in elderly patients. NOT DEGREE APPLICABLE. Not Transferable.

Required Writing, Problem Solving, Skills Demonstration

Discussion will highlight issues specific to senior care, demonstration of active listening and utilization of therapeutic communication while responding to case scenarios.

Eligible Disciplines

Nursing: Masters degree in nursing OR bachelors degree in nursing AND masters degree in health education or health science OR the equivalent OR the minimum qualifications as set by the Board of Registered Nursing, whichever is higher. Masters degree required.
