Course Description

Elementary instruction on a selected orchestral instrument. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC.

  1. Assess the suitability of these instrumental groups in an ensemble situation and select an instrument for performance.
  2. Evaluate the effectiveness and success of this performance.

Course Objectives

  • 1. Demonstrate instrumental tuning techniques.
  • 2. Perform major and minor scales.
  • 3. Sight read simple melodies.
  • 4. Demonstrate conducting patterns in 2/4 and 4/4 time.
  • 5. Demonstrate tone production and intonation.
  • 6. Follow a conductor as a member of an ensemble.
  • 7. Demonstrate simple articulations.
  • 8. Compare and contrast the five instrumental groups as they relate to ensemble performance.
