Course Description

Designed for guitarists who read standard musical notation. Rehearsal and performance of guitar ensemble literature from Renaissance to the present including music of the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern eras. Students in this class will present a public concert with guest artists. This course may be taken four times. ADVISORY: Able to sight read standard musical notation on the guitar; Must provide own acoustic guitar. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC. C-ID: MUS 180.C-ID: MUS 180.

  1. Diagnose technical challenges in the guitar ensemble concert repertoire and formulate practice exercises and a practice schedule to overcome these challenges.
  2. Perform a public concert as a member of the guitar ensemble.
  3. Evaluate the effectiveness and success of this performance.

Eligible Disciplines

Music: Master's degree in music OR bachelor's degree in music AND master's degree in humanities OR the equivalent. Master's degree required.
