Course Description

Designed for guitarists who read standard musical notation. Rehearsal and performance of guitar ensemble literature from Renaissance to the present including music of the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern eras. Students in this class will present a public concert with guest artists. Noncredit. ADVISORY: Able to sight read standard musical notation on the guitar; Must provide own acoustic guitar. NOT DEGREE APPLICABLE. Not Transferable.

  1. Diagnose technical challenges in the guitar ensemble concert repertoire and formulate practice exercises and a practice schedule to overcome these challenges.
  2. Perform a public concert as a member of the guitar ensemble.
  3. Evaluate the effectiveness and success of this performance.

  • 1. Apply guitar ensemble rehearsal techniques.

  • 3. Increase skills, background and experience as a performing musician.
  • 4. Sight read guitar ensemble music while following a conductor.
  • 5. Perform with accurate rhythm and intonation.

Eligible Disciplines

Music: Masters degree in music OR bachelors degree in music AND masters degree in humanities OR the equivalent. Masters degree required.
