Course Description

This course provides opportunity for students to perform in a live concert dance production in the Golden West College Mainstage Theater at an intermediate/advanced level. All the aspects of dance production including choreography and music, and technical elements such as lighting, costuming, sound, special effects, and set design will be emphasized. PREREQUISITE: Instructor permission. Transfer Credit: CSU.

  2. Create choreography utilizing tools such as repetition, retrograde, change of orientation, dynamic level change, and linear/nonlinear narrative.
  3. Compose in collaboration with student dancers to create choreography.
  4. Coordinate with the stage manager, lighting designer, set designer, sound designer, costume designer, and publicity manager to produce a choreographed dance to be performed in a live dance concert production at Golden West College.

Course Objectives

  • 1. Create a dance composition from inception through public performance at an intermediate/advanced level.
  • 2. Perform several complete dances in different styles and genres at an intermediate/advanced level.
  • 3. Prepare musical accompaniment, costumes, makeup, stage scenery, props, special effects, lighting and other technical elements as required at an intermediate/advanced level.
  • 4. Collaborate with faculty in the creative process of organizing and producing a dance concert at an intermediate/advanced level.
