Course Description
This course teaches the student basic scientific theory in cosmetic chemistry, professional development, wigs, hairpieces, and the principles of advanced hair sculpting. Skills are performed on patrons in a salon atmosphere. Course guidelines are in compliance with the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology Rules and Regulations. This is the fourth course in a series of four. PREREQUISITE: COSM G023. Not Transferable.

- Discuss the different forms of matter: elements, compounds, and mixtures.
- Distinguish between organic and inorganic chemical compounds.
- Demonstrate an advanced level of manipulative skills while working on models in a salon atmosphere, advanced techniques, and special effects in hair coloring.
Course Objectives
- 1. List the principles of selling products and services in the salon.
- 2. List the factors to consider when opening a salon.
- 3. Demonstrate haircutting techniques on combination forms including new trends released from Pivot Point.
- 4. Demonstrate individual hair analysis, color formulation, and color correction on a client.
- 5. Demonstrate advanced techniques and special effects in hair coloring.

Demonstration of Critical Thinking
Students will be given a picture of a hairstyle/cut from a magazine as if a patron wanted the design. They must identify, in writing, using Pivot Point terminology the structure of the sculpture and the techniques used on the model. A complete analysis will be presented consisting of the hair sculpture as well as the hair color technique.
