Course Description
This course teaches the student basic scientific theory in trichology, occupational health and safety, communicable diseases in the workplace, dermatology, communication skills. Students will learn the principles of facials, manicuring, hair cutting, styling, hair coloring, chemical straightening, and permanent waving. Course guidelines are in compliance with with the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. Students will begin to practice operations on doll heads and student exchange in order to perfect their skill. This is the second course in a series of four. PREREQUISITE: COSM G021. Not Transferable.

- Identify technical theory as defined by the State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology.
- Identify hair and scalp disorders.
- Distinguish the differences between sterilization, disinfection, and sanitation.
- Explain the importance of anatomy and physiology to the cosmetology profession.
- Demonstrate the four basic haircuts and basic wrapping procedures in permanent waving.

- 2. Perform skills to begin operations in a client lab/salon atmosphere.
- 3. Analyze formulation of hair color techniques to begin practical operations on clients.

Demonstration of Critical Thinking
Students are given a scenario of a client wanting hair color. The students must formulate to the target color after given all the variables in which adjustments might be made to the formula. A formulation blue print is sketched and their analyses results in the final color formulation.

Eligible Disciplines
Cosmetology: Any bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience.
