Course Description

Point by point discussion of California Code of Regulations, Title 22, Division 12, Chapters 1 and 2 regulations for child care program. Formerly known as EC A261. Transfer Credit: CSU.

Instructional Techniques

1.   Lecture and discussion of regulations 2.   Problem solve licensing scenarios related to various age group 3.   Overheads to reinforce mandated requirements 4.   Small group exercises where students will familiarize themselves with Title 22 document

Reading Assignments

Downloaded licensing regulations and related articles as assigned.  6 hours total per semester

Writing Assignments

Using the article “Developing a Service Philosophy” students will complete a written assignment applying it to a child care program philosophy.  4 hours total per semester

Out-of-class Assignments

Students will fill out KWL chart (What do you Know, what do you Want to Know, and What did you Learn) after introduction to regulations of Title 22 and share out with classmates either in class or via discussion board.   Students will review the section for Child Care Providers in the Child Care Law Center website provided, summarize a chosen topic, and explain how it applies to the operation of a child care program.  8 hours total per semester

Demonstration of Critical Thinking

Attendance Small and large group participation Completion of in-class assignments on subchapters: general; infant, preschool, school-age, mildly ill, and family child care regulations.

Required Writing, Problem Solving, Skills Demonstration

Students will complete a written assignment relating to a hypothetical child care program and Title 22 regulations.

Eligible Disciplines

Child development/early childhood education: Masters degree in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education, or educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education OR bachelors degree in any of the above AND masters degree in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies, or family and consumer studies OR the equivalent. Masters degree required.
