Course Description
This course is a survey of art and architecture within selected regions in Africa, Oceania, and indigenous North America. The course addresses prehistoric to contemporary forms of artistic expression in these regions emphasizing historical, religious, political, and socio-cultural contexts. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC. - 3. Examine representative works of art and architecture covered in this course using appropriate art historical terminology
- 4. Identify the visual culture of the African, Oceanic, and Native American peoples and cultures by considering key art historical concepts including iconography, context, and meanings/purposes/functions of works of art

Art history: Masters degree in art history, history of art and architecture, or visual culture/visual studies OR bachelors degree in art history and masters degree in history OR masters degree in art with a recorded emphasis or concentration in art history OR the equivalent. Masters degree required.
