Course Description

Women artists and the image of women in art from the Paleolithic period to the present day. Art criticisms, the feminist art movement, and the status of contemporary women artists. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC.

Course Objectives

  • 1. Provide a conceptual and historical format for the consideration of women artists and their actual and potential influence on the creation of art and its criticism.
  • 2. Provide a context in which the contributions of women in the visual arts can be rediscovered.
  • 3. Explore the image of women in art made by men.
  • 4. Evaluate the images of women in art in relation to the roles women have played in society.
