Course Description
Formerly: Intermediate Vietnamese. This course is designed for students to practice essential skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The course will provide students with further development of vocabulary, introduce idiomatic expressions and practice writing paragraphs in standard Vietnamese. Cultural reading will include Vietnamese history, literature and current affairs. PREREQUISITE: VIET G185. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC.

- Apply vocabulary and grammar to accurately recognize and comprehend spoken messages in Vietnamese at the intermediate level.

- Review vocabulary and grammar to derive the meaning of written materials at the intermediate level.

Demonstration of Critical Thinking
Students will be able to deduce valid conclusions from cultural readings. This will be done by written and oral work throughout the semester. Students will improve their Grammar of the Vietnamese language.
Required Writing, Problem Solving, Skills Demonstration
Students will be able to give presentations using the Vietnamese language and their knowledge of Vietnamese history and culture. Students will be able to write paragraphs using different types of sentences and clauses.
Eligible Disciplines
Foreign languages: Masters degree in the language being taught OR bachelors degree in the language being taught AND masters degree in another language or linguistics OR the equivalent. Masters degree required.
