Course Description

This course provides participation in the preparation of theatrical productions presented to the community in one or more of the following areas at an advanced level: stage scenery, stage lighting, stage makeup, stage costumes, house management, stage management, and acting. Actors will be selected through audition. All others will identify a preference for production assignments through the interview process. ADVISORY: Audition/interview. Transfer Credit: CSU.

  3. Complete a technical theater assignment in a live theatrical production at Golden West College at an advanced level.
  4. Complete a stage management or house management assignment in a live theatrical production at Golden West College at an advanced level.

Course Objectives

  • 1. Explain and demonstrate all aspects of theater production as appropriate for an advanced level student.
  • 2. Accept greater responsibility and employ advanced level understanding of the cooperative process of working with directors and designers from rehearsal through public performance.
  • 3. Apply advanced level skills and an understanding of rehearsal and performance protocols in acting.
  • 4. Apply advanced level skills, understanding of rehearsal and performance protocols, and application of management and production procedures in one or more of the following areas: stage management, house management, stage lighting, construction, rigging and painting of stage scenery, stage makeup, stage costumes, theatrical sound, equipment, terms and rehearsal management.

Demonstrated skill proficiency and advancement of knowledge in acting, stage management, house management, stage lighting, construction and painting of stage scenery, stage makeup, stage costumes, and/or theatrical sound at an advanced level. Attendance at live Golden West College or professional theatrical productions (with permission of instructor) for the purpose of critical evaluation.

Eligible Disciplines

Drama/theater Arts: Masters degree or Master of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance OR bachelors degree or Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama/theater/performance AND masters degree in comparative literature, English, communication studies, speech, literature, or humanities OR the equivalent.
