Course Description

This course explores vocal techniques for actors including warm-up techniques, phonetics, projection, articulation and the use of regional accents. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC.

  1. Rehearse and perform monologues and scenes in character with clear, flexible speech using various vocal techniques and accents.

Course Objectives

  • 1. Demonstrate a basic understanding of the phonetic, physiological and psychological facets of speech improvement.
  • 2. Evaluate voice and articulation including strengths and weaknesses.
  • 3. Develop, rehearse and utilize accents and orchestrated vocal techniques in scenes and monologues.
  • 4. Evaluate dramatic dialogue in terms of character and of vocal requirements.
  • 5. Develop ability and confidence in speaking onstage.
  • 6. Develop, rehearse and utilize vocal orchestration techniques in scenes and monologues.
  • 7. Evaluate dramatic dialogue in terms of character and of vocal requirements.
