Course Description

An advanced course in film and stage make-up techniques. Class will cover advanced make-up application which will include design, sculpting, molding, casting and finishing techniques of a prosthetic make-up. ADVISORY: THEA A177. Transfer Credit: CSU.

Course Level Student Learning Outcome(s)

  1. Demonstrate the design and correct use of advanced make-up materials and techniques to create stage make-up effects.
  2. Demonstrate the design and correct use of prosthetic appliances to create special effect make-up designs.

Course Objectives

  • 1. Use makeup to interpret an authors characterization
  • 2. Analyze a visual characterization through makeup design
  • 3. Explain and demonstrate safety and hygiene procedures for the field of makeup design.
  • 4. Demonstrate proper knowledge of the preparation of the skin and the removal of the makeup products.
  • 5. Create advanced old age, prosthetic and corrective make-up
  • 6. Recognize and formulate make-up designs for a production
  • 7. Plan and execute make-up effects at an advanced level of difficulty.
  • 8. Work collaboratively with the director, costume designer,and other members of a production and design team to create and prepare an appropriate make-up design.
  • 9. Communicate specific design application requirements to a make-up crew member, dresser or actor.
