Course Description
This is "The Rep," a student-run theatre company. Students will collaborate under faculty supervision to plan and produce several plays. First semester students will choose two or more areas of play production in which to take part. Play production aspects include backstage duties such as technical production, crew, or stage management, acting in student-directed plays, or management duties such as planning, publicity and ushering. This course gives students hands-on experience which extends and enriches experience beyond previous beginning acting and technical courses. Transfer Credit: CSU.

- Collaborate with students and faculty to produce and perform a series of stage plays.
Course Objectives
- 1. Work collaboratively with others.
- 2. Demonstrate a basic level of understanding of the organizational and production elements required to produce a stage play.
- 3. Complete tasks as part of a play production team. These may include acting in a play, assistant directing a play, technical work on scenery, lights, costume, props or sound, stage management,house management or publicity
- 4. Meet time demands on assigned production tasks.
Lecture Content
Students will work as a group to create a season of plays. Each individual will take part at a beginning skill level in two or more of the following areas of play production: Acting audition techniques rehearsal techniques and etiquette performance rules and etiquette Play production planning and scheduling Playwriting--Play readings and revisions Publicity press releases posters programs Management: scheduling, budgeting, organization assistant stage management safety techniques backstage etiquette Technical support backstage crew costume dresser construction of scenery, costumes or props preparation of light and sound elements safety techniques backstage etiquette Patron support ushering and concessions work safety techniques
Lab Content
Students will work under faculty supervision learning two or more areas of production. Each student will be instructed in their chosen tasks by faculty or advanced-level students either individually or as part of a group. Actors: Auditions, rehearsal techniques and etiquette, performance techniques. Technicians: production and preparation of technical elements, technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, crew assignments duties, backstage etiquette, safety. Managers: Scheduling, planning, organization of productions and performances. Working with designers, directors, technicians and front-of-house staff. Patron support: Duties and responsibilites as usher or concessions worker.

Out-of-class Assignments
Students will spend aprroximately 140 hours outside of class on all assignments Out-of-Class Assignments: Independent Rehearsal, Memorization, Directing,Costume / Set / Lighting Design and Construction, Program design,Ushering, Strike and other production tasks.
Demonstration of Critical Thinking
Practical examinations: student must demonstrate to the instructors satisfaction the ability to complete assigned tasks as part of the Rep production team. These projects must be completed on time and in the manner outlined in the student assignment handouts.

Production analyses. Problem solving and skill demonstration during rehearsal, pre-production, and performance.
