Course Description

This Pet Care Vocations course is designed for students interested in exploring possible pet care vocations. Students will meet pet care professionals who provide specified animal knowledge including animal-specific care. Integrated field experience includes hands-on care with a variety of animals to assist students in learning basic care skills required for possible employment opportunities. Noncredit. NOT DEGREE APPLICABLE. Not Transferable.

Course Level Student Learning Outcome(s)

  1. Successfully provide vocationally-appropriate, animal-specific care for both domesticated and wild animals by safely following complex directions and proper tool or supply use.
  2. Successfully recall/extrapolate appropriate animal care practices and responsibilities in both vocational and leisure activities.

Course Objectives

  • 1. Recall multi-step directions in appropriate animal scenarios.
  • 2. Identify specific care regiments with correct animals in the correct vocational setting.
  • 3. Safely apply specific vocational care regiments to appropriate animals.
  • 4. Clean up self, animal, and work area following participation in a pet care activity.
  • 5. Demonstrate animal care activity independently and accurately.
  • 6. Complete animal care activity within a self-projected completion time.
  • 7. Develop a list of appropriate animal-based community stewardship opportunities in which to actively participate during Externship.
