Course Description

Introductory course designed to develop identification skills, plant knowledge, and basic-care techniques used in personal and commercial greenhouses. Integrated field experience includes participation in propagation and care of seasonally appropriate landscaping elements. Noncredit. NOT DEGREE APPLICABLE. Not Transferable.

Course Level Student Learning Outcome(s)

1. Accurately recall the basic care of specific greenhouse plants useful for work and leisure-time activities.
2. Successfully care for greenhouse plants by safely following multi-step directions and using appropriate tools correctly.

Course Objectives

• 1. Follow multi-step directions.
• 2. Recognize, differentiate, and name typical traditional commercially grown greenhouse flora and related weed growth.
• 3. Demonstrate appropriate care and propagation of specific greenhouse plants.
• 4. Independently utilize typical greenhouse tools safely.
• 5. Complete multiple plant care tasks accurately, within a timely manner.
• 6. Clean up self and work area and compost organic materials following participation in a greenhouse activity.
• 7. Make use of greenhouse activities as a leisure-time activity.
