Course Description

This is a refresher course in cognitive skills and compensation strategies as related to job, school, and home settings. The course will also teach students to self-assess job and school performance and to develop and implement plans for improving performance. PREREQUISITE: Graduation from Coastline's ABI program or equivalent. Noncredit. NOT DEGREE APPLICABLE. Not Transferable.

1. Establish and evaluate at least three personal and work-related goals.
2. Identify and utilize coping strategies and relevant resources to deal with consequences related to brain injury.
3. Identify and acknowledge personal cognitive strengths and deficits.

Course Objectives

• 1. Generate compensation strategies for a minimum of three cognitive deficits.
• 2. Identify a minimum of three coping/stress management strategies related to individual psychosocial issues.
• 3. Implement goal setting strategies to improve cognitive performance at home, on the job, and/or in community settings.

Psychology: Masters degree in psychology OR bachelors degree in psychology AND masters degree in counseling, sociology, statistics, neuroscience, or social work OR the equivalent. Masters degree required. Special education: Minimum qualifications for these faculty members are specified in title 5, section 53414. Masters degree required.
