Course Description

Advanced instrumental music for students with developmental delays. Focus is on the development of music skills for performing simple instrumental arrangements in a group format. Students enrolled in the course receive an individualized educational contract where course objectives are evaluated according to whether or not the objectives/student outcomes are targeted, satisfied, not satisfied, deferred, or not applicable. Noncredit. NOT DEGREE APPLICABLE. Not Transferable.

  1. Play a designated musical instrument using rhythmic and melodic patterns while following the conductor.

Course Objectives

  • 1. Imitate instrumental rhythmic sounds and patterns.
  • 2. Imitate a simple melodic tune.
  • 3. Play simple rhythmic and melodic patterns using a type of musical or adapted musical notation.
  • 4. Create simple rhythmic patterns.
  • 5. Create simple melodic tunes.
  • 6. Play a musical arrangement with one or more chords.
  • 7. Visually follow conducting techniques.
  • 8. Participate in a group performance using one or more instruments.
  • 9. Sight-read music.
  • 10. Participate as a conductor in a musical performance.
  • 11. Use music as a technique for participation in a leisure-time activity.
  • 12. Incorporate appropriate listener behaviors at community music events.
