Course Description

Art class for adults with developmental disabilities. Focus is on the development of skills related to specific art processes, e.g., fiber arts, painting/drawing, mixed media, and three dimensional art forms and processes. Participants will be expected to utilize skills to produce one or more art projects in a chosen medium. Students receive an individualized student educational contract where course objectives are evaluated according to whether or not the objectives/student outcomes are targeted, satisfied, not satisfied, deferred, or not applicable. Noncredit. NOT DEGREE APPLICABLE. Not Transferable.

Course Level Student Learning Outcome(s)

  1. Utilize techniques, tools and a variety of art media to create at least one independent art project and at least one group project.
  2. Demonstrate ability to care for tools and supplies and prepare and clean his/her work area.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of various art media allowing the student to use his or her skills as a means of creative expression, leisure time activity, art appreciation and to display art work.

Course Objectives

  • 1. Use simple to more complex arts and crafts tools and media independently or with minimal supervision.
  • 2. Work cooperatively and productively on group art projects.
  • 3. Select and utilize technical skills appropriate to the media.
  • 4. Care for tools and equipment.
  • 5. Prepare work area.
  • 6. Clean work area.
  • 7. Initiate and sustain work on an art project for at least 15 minutes.
  • 8. Complete one or more independent art projects while enrolled in the course.
  • 9. Imitate specific tasks modeled by the instructor.
  • 10. Participate in displaying and showing of finished artwork.
  • 11. Use texture and dimensional concepts in arts and crafts projects.
  • 12. Use art as a means of creative expression.
  • 13. Use art as a medium for participation in a leisure time activity.
