Course Description

Comprehensive categorical review of diagnostic and therapeutic modalities in Respiratory Care to prepare for national certification, national registry, and state licensing board examinations. COREQUISITE: RSPC A278. Transfer Credit: CSU.

  1. Describe knowledge of patient assessment, equipment, diagnostic techniques, equipment and therapeutic modalities in a comprehensive setting.

Course Objectives

  • 1. Apply patient assessment and monitoring techniques to given patient scenarios *
  • 2. Describe pulmonary diagnostic techniques to diagnose and determine extent to pulmonary pathology. * +
  • 3. Describe and evaluate advanced monitoring data used in the intensive care unit* +
  • 4. Explain types, application, and outcomes of basic respiratory therapies utilized in the clinical area.*
  • 5. List, describe effect, dosages, side effects, and hazards of commonly used pulmonary pharmacological agents*+
  • 6. Describe and apply to patient situations, techniques utilized in emergency care life support and airway management. *
  • 7. List and describe all modes of life support mechanical ventilation in relation to patient assessment and outcomes.*
  • 8. Apply life support ventilatory techniques, airway management, and patient evaluation in neonatal pathologies*.
  • 9. List, describe clinical applications and evaluate outcomes of special procedures used in pulmonary care.*
  • 10. Explain techniques utilized in home care and patient pulmonary rehabilitation* .
  • 11. Prepare and complete all materials for application to the State Board and NBRC .
