Course Description

Comprehensive categorical review to reinforce core knowledge and applied skills in preparation to sit for the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) national board examination. PREREQUISITE: Completion of PSG A260 (Advanced Polysomnography) with a minimum of a C. Transfer Credit: CSU.

Course Level Student Learning Outcome(s)

  1. Strengthen foundational knowledge of sleep physiology, technology, and clinical practice.
  2. Accurately identify and score sleep stages and events according to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) scoring guidelines.
  3. Apply clinical and technical knowledge to real-world exam scenarios.
  4. Improve time management and test-taking strategies for the board exam.

Course Objectives

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of sleep architecture, sleep staging, and event scoring based on the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) guidelines.
  • Accurately identify and classify respiratory events, arousals, periodic limb movements, and cardiac arrhythmias during sleep studies.
  • Apply knowledge of PAP therapy and titration protocols.
  • Understand exam structure, content areas, and scoring domains of the RPSGT Exam.
  • Demonstrate readiness through completing a simulated registry exam of at least 150 questions.
  • Strengthen critical thinking and time management skills for effective exam performance.
