Course Description
Preparatory course for polysomnography clinical experience. Topics will include medical ethics, clinical emergencies, behavioral and performance objectives, and employability skills. COREQUISITE: PSG A150 and PSG A165. Transfer Credit: CSU.
Course Level Student Learning Outcome(s)
- Evaluate a patient history, plan PSG exam parameters according to the clinical requirements of a sleep disorder center, respond to medical emergencies encountered in a sleep lab and meet all requirements for assignment to a clinical affiliate site.
Course Objectives
- 1. Respond appropriately to emergency situations arising from epileptic seizure, cardiac arrhythmia, and stroke.
- 2. Evaluate a patient history of various sleep disorders and complaints.
- 3. Understand the clinical requirements of sleep disorder centers.
- 4. Understand the issues of medical ethics and professionalism.
- 5. Demonstrate basic patient care, comfort, and safety required for sleep study patients
- 6. Meet all requirements for assignment to a clinical affiliate site.

Class participation, completing handouts and the development of appropriate PSG recordings, including patient information and recording parameters
