Course Description
Advanced instrumentalists will discuss, write, rehearse and perform modern big band jazz music. Class includes guest artists and public performances. PREREQUISITE: Eligibility based on successful audition. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC. C-ID: MUS 180.C-ID: MUS 180.

- Perform a public concert as a big band jazz ensemble.
- Construct a practice and rehearsal schedule relating to the public concert.
Course Objectives
- 1. Perform notated articulations correctly.
- 2. Discriminate between the various styles of jazz.
- 3. Follow a conductor.
- 4. Effectively perform as member of the ensemble.
- 5. Effectively perform as member in a section.
- 6. Improvise a solo a minimum of twelve measures in length.
- 7. Effectively perform rhythmic elements in various grooves and “feels.”
- 8. Effectively accompany a vocalist.
