Course Description
Continuation of Classical Guitar 1 with emphasis on advanced classical guitar performance techniques and literature. PREREQUISITE: MUS A148 or audition. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC.
Course Level Student Learning Outcome(s)
- Perform in public by memory a classical composition of at least 90 seconds in length.
- Evaluate various fingering possibilities as they relate to phrasing and performance.
- Differentiate between stylistic differences relating to the performance of classical music.
- Demonstrate the ability to follow a conductor.
Course Objectives
- 1. Demonstrate skill in the first position and the higher register of the guitar fingerboard.
- 2. Demonstrate classical guitar technique, arpeggio, free stroke, rest stroke at various tempos.
- 3. Develop skills in sight reading on the classical guitar up to the fifth position.
- 4. Be able to memorize medium length pieces of music in one and two parts.
- 5. Perform pieces of classical guitar repertoire in their entirety by memory.
- 6. Increase and improve the dexterity of the right hand through the use of arpeggiated chordal studies and repertoire.
