Course Description
This course introduces students to the legal and ethical issues that affect the health care industry, health care providers, and health care managers. It covers all related topics such as tort law, criminal aspects of health care, patient confidentiality, release of medical information, informed consent, corporate and personal liability, and medical malpractice. Special emphasis is placed on the procedures that protect the security of health care data. Transfer Credit: CSU.

Course Objectives
- 1. Apply the principles and legal regulations of healthcare management to real world situations
- 2. Exhibit high standards of professional practice, demonstrating awareness of ethical and social responsibilities in todays multicultural, team-oriented, rapidly changing, healthcare/management environment
- 3. Effectively communicate solutions to management issues in an organizational (health care) setting, using appropriate language and tools, including demonstrating an understanding of management terms and concepts

Instructional Techniques
Multiple methods of instruction will be used to enhance student understanding of the basic elements of Legal Aspects of Health Care Administration. Lectures, discussions, forums, interactive activities, and group projects will be utilized to facilitate the learning process. This class requires the use of various methods of audio visuals such as PowerPoint presentations, Audio CD, and Videos.
Demonstration of Critical Thinking
Critical thinking will be demonstrated through written assignments, essays on exams, research papers, and projects.
Required Writing, Problem Solving, Skills Demonstration
Exercises are given to test the ability of students to deal with legal issues that they might face in real life situations. Students will be given the opportunity to present their team project to the class and be ready to answer questions from other students

Law: J.D. or LL.B NOTE: Courses in aspects of law for application to a particular discipline may be classified, for minimum qualifications purposes in the discipline of the application. Masters degree required.
