Course Description
Preparation for California Certification Exam as Pesticide Applicator and Gardeners Maintenance Pest Control Operators. Emphasis on safe use of pesticides, alternative pest management. Ornamental, turf grass, industrial, right-of-way and seed treatment control. Transfer Credit: CSU.

- Identify and apply the laws and regulations pertaining to the use of pesticides in California.
- Describe the procedures involved in the safe applications of pesticides to horticultural plants.
Course Objectives
- 1. Discuss the various laws and regulations and entities affecting pest control.
- 2. Realize the importance of safety in the handling and application of pesticides.
- 3. Discuss the pesticide label as a legal document.
- 4. Discuss the various Biotic disorders in plants.
- 5. Differentiate between A Biotic and Biotic disorders in plants.
- 6. Discuss IPM (Integrated Pest Management) and how it relates to pest control.

Laws and Regulations Specific Pests: insects and relatives; snails/slugs; vertebrate; weeds Plant Diseases: parasites and non parasites Pesticides: classification; labels; LD50 value of LC50; toxicity symptoms and first aid; application and safety Alternatives to pesticides IPM , Integrated Pest Management
