Course Description

This course will help students build various skills required in their English composition courses. These skills include sentence grammar, sentence fluency, paragraph and essay structure, reading comprehension, source integration, and research writing. Noncredit. NOT DEGREE APPLICABLE. Not Transferable.

  1. Students will be able to demonstrate improvement in skills related to English 100, including writing, reading and researching source material.

Course Objectives

  • 1. Plan, create, and produce a coherent, well supported, properly formatted thesis-driven college essay.
  • 2. Find and embed research into their essays.
  • 3. Read and analyze college-level texts.

Demonstration of Critical Thinking

Students will demonstrate critical thinking skills in developing ideas in paragraphs and essay, while reading and evaluating college-level texts, and evaluating and using source material.

Required Writing, Problem Solving, Skills Demonstration

Student will demonstrate problem-solving skills in paragraph and essay organization and development, in finding ways to understand and articulate complex ideas, and in evaluating and improving problematic writing in their drafts.

Eligible Disciplines

English: Masters degree in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition OR bachelors degree in any of the above AND masters degree in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing, or journalism OR the equivalent. Masters degree required.
