Course Description
Formerly: ESL C085N. This is a pronunciation and communication course for non-native English speakers of intermediate to advanced level English proficiency. Emphasis is placed on highly accurate pronunciation and comprehension of American English speech patterns and communication skills necessary for employment, social, and academic situations. ADVISORY: Students who have completed ESL C043N Speaking and Listening 2B with a Pass are encouraged to enroll in this course or new students are advised to complete the ESL placement process to determine their initial placement. (NOT DEGREE APPLICABLE.) Not Transferable.

- Demonstrate accuracy in correct pronunciation of targeted English phonemes.
- Exhibit correct English language stress, pitch, and intonation patterns.
- Demonstrate correct pronunciation of final consonants, including pluralization, possessives, and tense markers.

- 1. Consistently enunciate vowels and consonants accurately.
- 2. Demonstrate fluency in reading and speaking, enunciating English phonemes accurately and showing control of pitch, stress, and intonation.

Eligible Disciplines
ESL: Master's degree in TESL, TESOL, applied linguistics with a TESL emphasis, linguistics with a TESL emphasis, English with a TESL emphasis, or education with a TESL emphasis OR bachelor's degree in TESL, TESOL, English with a TESL certificate, linguistics with a TESL certificate, applied linguistics with a TESL certificate, or any foreign language with a TESL certificate AND master's degree in linguistics, applied linguistics, English, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, speech, or any foreign language OR the equivalent. Master's degree required.
