Course Description

This noncredit course is designed for beginning English learners wanting to practice their speaking skills. Students will learn and talk about important people and events in U.S. culture, increasing their vocabulary and awareness of a variety of U.S. cultural topics. This is an open-entry course. Not Transferable.

Course Level Student Learning Outcome(s)

1. Students will share information about a variety of topics in short conversations or short presentations. \\n
2. Students will be able to continue a short conversation by asking clarifying or follow-up questions.

Course Objectives

• 1. Identify important facts about a given topic--what, who, when, where\\n2. Describe people, people, and places\\n3. Use basic English nonverbal cues--Eye contact, voice volume, interpersonal distance, etc.\\n4. Be able to speak in English for 30 seconds - 1 minute with little to no grammar accuracy expectation\\n5. Be able to ask Y/No questions. \\n6. Be able to ask Wh-questions.
