Course Description
Use a digital camera with Adobe Photoshop to perform basic image editing techniques to enhance and correct images. Learn basic camera controls, camera support systems, basic lighting techniques, file formats, transfer of files, and saving options. ADVISORY: Student must have access to/own digital camera. Enrollment Limitation: DMD C131; students who complete DGA C131 may not enroll in or receive credit for DMD C131. Transfer Credit: CSU.
Course Level Student Learning Outcome(s)
- Based on specified client/customer criteria, create digital photo projects with images from a digital camera using Photoshop to enhance, correct and crop the images, for print, the web or digital frames.
Course Objectives
- 1. Frame photographs successfully given specific parameters.
- 2. Color correct, retouch, and use filters on digital photos.
- 3. Explore advanced editing techniques and filters.
- 4. Produce professional photo images for post-production and media integration.

Instructional Techniques
A variety of instructional techniques will be employed to encompass different student learning styles. These may include, but are not limited to, lecture, discussion, projects, and small group activities. Instruction will be supplemented, where appropriate, by digital media presentations and resources, guest speakers, and field trips.
Reading Assignments
Students will complete reading assignments from the textbook, supplemental readings, handouts, Internet resources, and any assignments from Coastlines Library.
Writing Assignments
Create a design plan, revision/reflective logs, weekly topic responses, and critiques.

Eligible Disciplines
Graphic arts (desktop publishing): Any bachelors degree and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience.
